As appetizing as any cookie, Protibis cookies are more interesting: they contain a lot of protein (20% protein) and very few calories (30 kcal). Their advantage is such that Social Security has decided to reimburse these gourmet cakes similar to Breton galettes since March 1, 2017. Pure butter biscuits, high protein and hypocaloric supported? A strange initiative, some would say. Still, Protibis cookies are not ordinary cookies. They act as a nutritional supplement to help patients maintain or regain weight, explains the Nice University Hospital in a press release. But not only. They are particularly suitable for the elderly, but also for patients with cancer (less nausea), Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes (because the biscuits are not very sweet with a glycemic index < 28) or even dialysis patients in session (solid food). The biscuit, in plain or cocoa version, is guaranteed pure butter, without palm oil or GMOs, coloring or preservatives.
A real nutritional aid for dependent seniors
“Clinical studies show that Protibis biscuits increase weight and appetite, regulate transit and reduce bedsores”, explains Professor Isabelle Prêcheur from the University Hospital of Nice and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.
A medico-economic study, carried out by the CHU of Nimes, concluded that these biscuits contribute to improving the nutritional state and a fortiori to reducing the costs of medical consultations and hospital stays. among seniors for falls and infections.
Intended for hospitals and nursing homes (accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people), the biscuits are also sold in pharmacies with reimbursement by Health Insurance.
