Health insurers are responsible for home care for the first time this year. But too little care has been purchased to meet the increasing demand.
Dutch health insurers probably have not purchased enough home care for the rest of the year. Jos de Blok, the director of Buurtzorg Nederland, expresses this fear in NRC Handelsblad. This year 400 million euros must be cut in home care. According to De Blok, the saving of 10 percent is reasonably successful, but there is a growing demand for home care, which means that the costs are expected to rise. More elderly people no longer go to nursing homes and therefore turn to home care. This rising demand was not anticipated when purchasing healthcare. According to De Blok, health insurers will have to make more money available: “Otherwise, our clients will get into major problems.”
