“Today to treat psoriasis, we just treat the symptoms because we don’t really know the cause. But we cannot say that we cure the patient. We let the latter believe that he will suffer from this dermatological disease all his life when it is quite possible to make the plaques disappear without fear of recurrence when the treatment is stopped.. The words of Dr Paul Dupont, dermatologist and author of Get rid of psoriasiswill undoubtedly bring a wind of hope to the 3% of French people who suffer from psoriasis.
We treat the symptoms, we do not cure the disease.
In psoriasis, the skin has red patches covered with scales of varying thickness which are accompanied by itching. Relapses are frequent until they become chronic because the classic treatments consist in reducing the most bothersome symptomswithout ever treating her.
And that’s where Dr. Dupont comes in. Because the latter is firmly convinced that nutritional and psychological factors are preponderant in the maintenance of psoriasis plaques. “I have become convinced that the personal reaction to stress results in the increased consumption of certain nutrients which are then lacking in people with psoriasis”.
This is what prompted him to prescribe marine lecithin to his patients with psoriasis. “The results were surprising. Indeed, several of them pointed out to me that their lesions were beginning to “whiten”. I concluded that taking marine lecithin alone could be enough to stop the psoriasis flare-ups” explains the dermatologist.
What is Marine Lecithin?
Lecithin is a lipid that transports fatty acids making them water soluble. This is what promotes their absorption by the intestine and their fixation in the tissues. There are as many lecithins as living species. The best known so far was soy lecithin but we must now also rely on marine lecithin, from fish eggs, which provides Omega-3 DHA, choline, serine, all molecules useful to the nervous system and the skin.
“It is marine lecithin extracted from wild fish eggs that is the most reliable in psoriasis. Firstly because it is closest to human lecithin and secondly because its Omega-3 DHA content is constant “ emphasizes Dr. Dupont. “It regulates the healing of the skin, while promoting its oxygenation by regenerating the wall of red blood cells. But it also soothes the nerves, moreover the first effect described by patients under lecithin is the return to inner calm”.
The duration of treatment
To obtain good results with marine lecithin, Dr. Dupont recommends “take sufficient doses for long enough”. That is, at least 400 mg per day of phospholipids for at least 8-9 months. But some patients may need to start with an attack treatment with a dosage of 1000 mg per day for the first few months, depending on the prescription of the dermatologist.
The most convincing improvement usually appears after 6 to 8 months. The skin then becomes less red, the psoriasis begins to whiten. Can we then stop taking lecithin? “It actually depends on the moral and general state. This supplement is not a panacea to cure psoriasis, it provides the deficient organism with what it needs. Supplementation must be done, as long as there is has deficiency” concludes the specialist.
