The more women a man would have known sexually, the less risk he would have of developing this cancer. On the other hand, this relationship is reversed if he has dated men.
Researchers at the University of Montreal analyzed the medical data and sexual behavior of 3,200 men, half of whom were diagnosed with prostate cancer between 2005 and 2009. The results of this study are surprising.
When a man has dated more than 20 women in his life, his risk of developing prostate cancer is reduced by 28% (from most to least aggressive) and that of suffering from an aggressive type of cancer is reduced by 19%. , compared to those who have only known one partner.
“It is possible that the fact of having known several sexual partners translates into a frequency ofejaculation larger, whose protective effect against prostate cancer has been observed previously in scientific studies, ”explains Marie-Élise Parent, specialist in prostate cancer research at the School of Public Health of the Montreal university. “The underlying mechanism of this protective effect lies in particular in the decrease in the concentration of carcinogenic substances present in the prostatic fluid”.
In contrast, a man who has had more than 20 male partners in his life is twice as likely to develop prostate cancer compared to those who have not dated any.
“We can make a highly speculative hypothesis to try to explain this association. It could reveal that greater exposure to STI increases the risk of suffering from this cancer, or that anal penetration produces a lesion to the prostate, ”explains the researcher.
Sexual abstinence is bad for your health
The results of this study also reveal that men who said they had never had sex were almost twice as likely to develop prostate cancer as those who had.
the Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer in humans. In France, 71,000 new cases are diagnosed each year and this disease is the cause of nearly 8,870 deaths. This cancer concerns a total of 300,000 men in France.
