Be careful if you recently bought rice. A batch of wholegrain basmati rice from the Taureau Ailé brand, sold throughout France, has been recalled. The product contains a banned pesticide.
- Some old or inexpensive (because the patent has expired) pesticides, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and lindane, can stay in soils and water for years.
- According to the WHO, food is the main source of exposure to pesticides. The authorities have put in place pesticide residue limits not to be exceeded.
- In 2019, EFSA analyzed 96,302 food samples. 96.1% were within legal limits. Concerning 12 products (apples, headed cabbages, lettuces, peaches, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, oat grains, barley grains, wine, cow’s milk and pork fat) covered by a European study, the rate was 98%.
