What is the cause of their appearance?
Very common during pregnancy, varicose veins appear almost overnight during the first two trimesters of pregnancy (70% of them arrive before the sixth month), settling almost anywhere on the legs and feet. Heredity and especially pregnancy hormones are the main causes: they cause the veins to dilate and make their walls less toned.
How are they formed?
The veins begin by no longer functioning properly: their walls soften, dilate, no longer allowing blood to circulate normally. Eventually, these veins change, becoming sinuous and swollen. This is how varicose veins are born.
Remedy varicose veins
To improve your comfort, the gynecologist may prescribe a restraint as well as venotonics, used in case of pain. There is therefore no need to go to the phlebologist, except in the event of complications (thrombosis orphlebitis). Experts from the site of the association La Maladie veneuse also give advice on hygiene:
- Elevate the legs in case of edema
- Beware of prolonged standing
- Avoid the sun on your legs.
They also specify: “If the woman was followed for sclerosis of varicose veins until now, the treatment will generally be suspended during the pregnancy because it is not very useful. On the other hand, the doctor will not hesitate to sclerose the vein if there is a risk of complications (bursting of the varicose vein): there is no risk for the baby. “
