Soon, the first saliva pregnancy test, developed by an Israeli start-up, will be available. This device can detect the presence of the Beta HcG hormone, a sign that a woman is pregnant.
- The pregnancy hormone, Beta HcG, appears 10 days after fertilization.
- To date, the price of the saliva pregnancy test is unknown.
In case of suspected pregnancy, women have two options to confirm or refute their doubts. They can take a pregnancy test or take a blood test. In both cases, the objective is to detect the presence of the pregnancy hormone, called Beta HcG. Recently, the Israeli medical company Salignostics has developed another device, which could overshadow traditional methods, to find out if you are pregnant.
Pregnancy test: “saliva is the key to a rapid diagnosis”
The start-up has developed the first saliva pregnancy test, called “SaliStick”. This device works in the same way as the existing pregnancy test on the market. Clearly, “SaliStick” makes it possible, in about ten minutes, to detect the Beta HcG hormone present in saliva and to accurately determine the start of pregnancy. “Saliva is the key to rapid diagnosis for many medical reasons. It is the only non-invasive, easy and hygienic way to detect hormones, viruses and even diseases”said, at the site Medical Device NetworkGuy Krief, co-founder of Salignostics.
Is this first saliva pregnancy test reliable?
For now, the reliability of this saliva pregnancy test is not known. The company has just completed clinical studies with more than 300 pregnant and non-pregnant women in Israel. The device has already received the CE mark from the European Union to be sold throughout Europe. According to Salignostics, the test should be marketed in early 2023.
