Relive your favorite road or roads in the real world in a game. Porsche makes this possible with Virtual Roads.
Racing on world famous tracks in games is of course great. Technology has made great strides. Developers carefully scan circuits and then incorporate them into the game. And you can experience the race track from the comfort of your home like drivers do in real life. But what if you can relive your favorite public road in a game? Porsche Virtual Roads brings this concept to life.
With Virtual Roads, Porsche registers by means of a smartphone app your route. The recorded route can then be loaded into games that are compatible with the concept. For now it is known that Assetto Corsa works with the technology. A full list of games is not yet available. Porsche uses software technology from Way Ahead Technologies.
The app not only measures the turns you make, but also guardrail, trees and other environmental factors. This is to bring your route to a game as accurately as possible. The software is able to save about eight kilometers of route in one go.
Porsche Virtual Roads is currently still under development and it sounds promising. It is still unknown when the German sports car manufacturer will release the technology publicly.
