Ok, high heels are sexy, they’re feminine, and it allows us to gain a few centimeters neither seen nor known. Except that it is also a real scourge for our health …
Stilettos, pumps, spool heels … According to a recent study conducted by researchers from Stanford University (United States) and published in the scientific journal Orthopedic Research, high heels over 8 centimeters would increase the risk of osteoarthritis in women.
To come to this conclusion, the scientists studied the gait of 14 volunteers. First, they made them walk (almost) flat with heels only 4 centimeters. Then, change of shoes: the Cinderellas for a day put on 9-centimeter heels and crawled thus perched for a few hours.
Joint wear
Verdict: on a CT scan, the researchers realized that the cartilage that makes up the joints of these women wears out much more quickly. And who says joint wear says premature osteoarthritis … “The regular wearing of heels, especially associated with excess weight, is a real risk factor” explains Matthew Titchenal, author of the study.
So to preserve our bones (and not to end up too quickly with a cane), we reserve our vertiginous pumps for the evenings, and we adopt comfortable shoes immediately!
