The organ transplant remains the only therapeutic outcome for most diseases in which the loss of the function of vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver or lungs is irreversible. In 2007 in France, nearly 12,800 people needed organ transplants and 232 patients died for lack of a transplant, according to information from the National Institute of Health (Inserm).
To promote organ donation 13 transplant recipients in the UK, the “Transplant Troopers“, posed for a calendar retro. The funds collected will be donated to the association “Live Life Then Give Life“during National Transplant Week in the UK. The models who underwent the exercise agreed to take a photo of themselves before the operation, then had their portrait taken by a photographer professional after their recovery.
By achieving this calendar, they want to support patients awaiting transplants and encourage healthy people to engage in organ donation. Of the 13 project participants, most received lungs. They all recovered well except Anders Gibson, Mr. July, whose double lung transplant failed.
