Nikon Verres Optiques has carried out an awareness campaign on visual health in France in recent months. While 77% of those surveyed said they had good eyesight, only half did not need correction.
In 2050, five billion people will be nearsighted according to Australian researchers. The fault, among other things, to the time spent in front of the screens and the reduction in time spent outdoors. Because exposing yourself to the sun’s rays reduce the risk. The Nikon Optical Lens group has carried out a study which draws up an alarming report. The French interviewed think they can see that some of them need a correction.
Disabling vision in 16% of cases
In all, 4,273 people received a full eye test in seven French cities. 77% of them thought they had good vision. However, it is not the case. Among the participants, 16% had a sight considered to be disabling. In 30% of cases, their vision was not optimal. And so only 54% of them did not indeed need correction. Note that we do not know theage of participants. The group recalls the importance of a regular ophthalmologic follow-up, even if only a quarter of those questioned did not benefit from it. Not having a correction, or having a bad one, can lead to symptoms of eye strain.
Itchy eyes, blurred vision and heavy eyelids
During his “Vision Tour” in May and June, the specialists of Nikon Optical Lenses observed an increase in visual fatigue among the French. The latter is manifested by the following symptoms: at the end of the day, itchy or tight eyes, a feeling of “dry eye”, excessive blinking, headaches, blurred or doubled vision, difficulty concentration, heavy eyelids or difficulty focusing. 78% of people who had an eye test reported experiencing these symptoms.
Visual fatigue, caused by screens
Beyond an absence of correction or a bad correction, more than half of the people who feel visual fatigue say they spend more than six hours a day in front of screens. They are 83% among 19-44 year olds. When we look at a screen for a long time, our eyes keep accommodating. However, the eye is not armed to do so much. This therefore causes visual disturbances.
To avoid them, here are some tips. Blink your eyes regularly to increase the quality of tears and prevent dry eyes. Work in a light and airy room. Take regular breaks. Just lift your nose from the computer every twenty minutes and look into the distance. Then, keep the screen a good distance from your eyes, 70 or 80 cm.
