Between sedan and station wagon, Opel will explore a third way in 2024. That of a slightly cut crossover, a little hunting break which will be offered in a 100% electric version. A project known today under the code name OV54 which at Peugeot takes the form of the 4008.
We told you about it in mid-October, Opel is preparing a third silhouette in the Astra range. It will be that of a crossover based on the body of the Opel Astra Sports Tourer station wagon differing at its ends.

The anti Ford Focus SW Active?
The objective assigned to the Opel Astra Country Tourer is to revisit the genre and occupy the little vacant place between station wagons and compact SUVs. A niche in which generalist manufacturers have not yet entered. In the fall of 2022, Peugeot will also invest it with its P54 project, a crossover coupe attached, at the front, to the family of the new 308 and offering an alternative body to the sedan as to the station wagon.
Production of this future Peugeot 4008 will begin at the Mulhouse plant in October 2022. Finally, in order not to step on each other’s toes, the roles have been clearly defined in the Stellantis group: the Opel Astra Country Tourer will be entitled to a 100% electric version, the Peugeot 4008 relies on plug-in hybrid technology. And for good reason, the electrical architecture of 136 hp reserved for the Opel Astra and Peugeot 308 sedans in 2023 is insufficient because of the size. Nevertheless, the Country Tourer will be able to count on that of the DS4 E-Tense manufactured in the same factory. In 2024, the French will benefit from the new Nidec engine and the ACC battery.
