With the new OnePlus 10 Pro, the brand once again sets new standards. But it’s not really all that new.
Intuitively, the heyday of OnePlus is behind us. Carl Pei left and founded his own brand Nothing. And OnePlus has more and more merged with OPPO in recent times. Add to that the fact that the new 10 Pro was first launched in its home country of China and later came to Europe and America. The priorities are clearly different compared to the previous flagships of the tech brand.
That does not make the OnePlus 10 Pro a lesser phone. If you look at the specifications, you will understand why. The 10 Pro has a 6.7-inch large OLED screen with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The device itself weighs 201 grams, which is okay. In any case, OnePlus did not manage to get the smartphone under 200 grams.
This is partly due to the large 5,000 mAh battery. You can charge this battery at lightning speed thanks to SUPERVOOC technology. Wired it goes with 80W and wireless with 50W AIRVOOC which is still ridiculously fast. A real powerhouse when it comes to fast charging, this 10 Pro. There is a USB-C port on the bottom of the phone.
All that power is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The best that the American chip manufacturer currently has for mobile phones. The smartphone features 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. Below the screen is a fingerprint scanner.
OnePlus supplies the 10 Pro with OyxgenOS 12.1, based on Android 12. The phone is available in the colors Volcanic Black, like our copy, or Emerald Forest.
For the cameras, OnePlus has once again entered into a partnership with Hasselblad. The construction consists of a 48 MP + 50 MP + 8 MP island. On the front is a 32 MP selfie camera.
OnePlus has done a great job of displaying the island a little differently. This way you can easily recognize the 10 Pro from the back. It’s not easy to confuse with last year’s 9 Pro.
Prices for the OnePlus 10 Pro start at 899 euros in the color Volcanic Black with 128 GB storage. Remarkably, you have to pay 100 euros extra if you want the smartphone in Emerald Forest. This color is only available on the version with 256 GB storage. so 999 euros.
OnePlus 10 Pro review
We’ve already had the theory behind us. In practice for this review, the OnePlus 10 Pro feels old-fashioned familiar. More of the same, as the title says. It is a typical OnePlus product. In other words, quality, excellent hardware and a great price tag.
Kudo’s to OnePlus that the price has remained below 1,000 euros, provided you go for the entry-level. The competition is fierce and with an acceptable price, the Chinese techigant manages to keep his head above water. With a price of more than 1,000 euros, the 10 Pro would have had a hard time in my opinion. Just like the OPPO Find X5 Pro is too expensive, if I do say so myself.
Camera
The camera is just old-fashioned strong again. Exactly what you expect from OnePlus. Beautiful colours, rich details, but not the very best available on the market. Under low light conditions, the photos are sometimes a bit dark. Then noise will quickly appear on the image. But in general, the camera of the OnePlus 10 Pro just scores very well.
Conclusion
Without crazy surprises, OnePlus has launched the 10 Pro. It’s a great evolution on the 9 Pro. If I had to choose myself, a discounted 9 Pro is a good alternative to the 10 Pro. Because the 9 Pro is still good, gets tired quickly and also has a good camera. You only compromise on fast charging. But those few extra minutes are worth a few hundred euros less, right?
Pros
- Acceptable price
- High end hardware
- good camera
Negatives
- Launch first in China, later in Europe: novelty has worn off
- Merger with OPPO makes the OnePlus less special
- Pay 100 euros extra for a different color in combination with extra storage
