According to a study conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Connecticut and the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in the United States, eating nuts regularly would reduce the risk of developing colon cancer.
Two to three times less risk of developing a tumor
In France, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer : the second for women and the third for men. He is responsible for the death of 17,500 French people each year. However, according to a study, published in the specialized journal Cancer Prevention Research, 30 grams of nuts per day, from the age of 50, would prove to be effective as a prevention, especially in men.
To reach these conclusions, the researchers formed two groups of mice. The first group received a ration of conventional food, the second of nuts to the tune of 7 to 10.5% of its daily caloric intake. Results: male rats that ate nuts were two to three times less likely to develop adenomatous polyp, the tumor that causes colon cancer.
Eat nuts!
According to the researchers, it is the content of nuts in polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega-3 and omega-6, and vitamin E which would promote a balance of the intestinal flora.
” You could say that nuts act like probiotics ”Argued the authors of the study. ” This hypothesis is specifically valid in male mice ; however, we did not find any significant differences in the intestinal flora in female mice. “.
But that’s not all. Previous studies have shown thatregular consumption of nuts helped lower blood cholesterol levels, to fight against cardiovascular diseases and against type 2 diabetes.
