“12 high-throughput genome sequencing platforms will be deployed in France“. This is what the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, announced on the antenna of Classic Radio on June 22, 2016. By creating these platforms, as well as “two expert reference centers that will be recognized worldwide“, the Minister of Health announces that France is committed to the personalized medicine revolution.
Treatments adapted to the genes of each patient
Genome sequencing consists in deciphering all the genes of each person. With this mass of knowledge, it becomes easier to understand the problem in case of illness and therefore to treat it by adapting the treatments to the genetic characteristics of each patient. “It’s a battle to heal the cancerthe diabetes and some rare diseases“, underlined Marisol Touraine. “To cure the diseases of tomorrow, we need to go through new knowledge and new research“, she added. These new centers are part of the Genomic Medicine 2025 Plan which will be endowed with 670 million euros over the next five years. Initial studies on personalized treatments have already provided promising results for specifically treat cancers according to the genomic profile of each tumor.
