Why detoxify your hair
In the same way thatwe exfoliate the skinto dislodge impurities and dead cells, the hair must also be relieved of toxins and pollutants (tobacco, pollution, dust) which weigh it down. Not to mention that some classic shampoos and styling treatments are composed of silicone and chemicals which, if they provide a smoothing and sheathing effect, suffocate the scalp a little more and dull the hair shine.
Hair needs to breathe! We make them find a little freedom by pampering them with these detox gestures.
The right actions to adopt
-The switch to organic : we skip the classic commercial shampoos and we go organic. More respectful of the health of the hair (and of the planet!), These organic formulas or neutral washing bases (developed with mild and vegetable surfactants) are devoid of chemical ingredients.
-A vegetable oil bath: we hydrate and repair the hair more intensely with a vegetable oil bath (argan, sweet almond, aloe vera, jojoba, etc.) that we apply all over the hair for a few hours or as a mask all night.
-A clay mask: just as a clay bath detoxifies the skin, a treatment based on clay and a little water cleanses and purifies the scalp. Mix a small amount of clay with a little water, put on a mask for a few minutes and rub the hair before rinsing thoroughly.
-A vinegar rinse: odorless, the vinegar rinse water is used after shampoo to rinse the hair, as its name suggests, in order to remove lime residue. An effective shine and tone asset!
A natural detox shampoo recipe
Among the detox active ingredients, less is known about neem powder. However, these detoxifying (re-oxygenating) and soothing (which relieve itchy scalp) virtues are very popular in India. This active ingredient is even a key ingredient in the Ayurvedic tradition (traditional medicine) where neem powder is used in particular in the form of poultices and masks.
We take advantage of these benefits (without paying a plane ticket to New Delhi), with this recipe for neem and lemon detox bar shampoo.
Equipment
-a ceramic pestle
-a soap mold and round candle
Ingredients (for approximately 100 ml):
-54 g of sodium coconut sulfate (surfactant derived from coconut oil which gives a foaming effect)
-6.5 g of mineral water
– 3 g of powdered neem
-45 drops of lemon essential oil
Manual
-Melt the sodium coconut sulfate with mineral water in a double boiler over low heat. Then mix throughout the heating, crushing the preparation to form a sticky paste.
-Outside a double boiler, add the neem powder and lemon essential oil then mix.
-Fill the mold with the preparation.
-Cool in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before unmolding.
-Allow bar shampoo to dry at room temperature for at least 48 hours before use.
Application
Rub the solid shampoo on wet hair to make it foam, massage the hair and scalp as with a classic shampoo then rinse with clear water, for shiny, supple and lighter hair!
