Mutual masturbation improves couple life according to a sexology study.
- We still associate masturbation a lot with celibacy.
- However, mutual masturbation is linked to greater sexual satisfaction within couples.
- Mutual masturbation can be practiced in different ways depending on each couple’s preferences and limits.
A new study reveals that mutual masturbation is linked to greater sexual satisfaction within couples.
Masturbation, couples and celibacy
As we still associate masturbation with celibacy, previous research published on the subject has not focused on this practice done as a couple.
Researchers therefore logically wanted to fill this gap. To do this, they composed a cohort that included 117 women and 151 men, aged 18 to 65 years old.
An important practice of masturbation as a couple
All participants independently completed an online survey, which included questions about demographic characteristics, sexual experiences, feelings toward mutual masturbation, sexual satisfaction, and sexual self-esteem.
Approximately 50% of participants reported engaging in mutual masturbation in the past two weeks, with similar proportions of men and women (48.3% of men and 53.8% of women).
People who reported engaging in mutual masturbation experiences in the past two weeks tended to have higher levels of sexual satisfaction than others.
How to masturbate as a couple?
“Mutual masturbation can be an educational tool for couples regarding pleasure and female anatomy”add the scientists. “It can also allow both members of the couple to discover new sources of pleasure,” they emphasize.
Mutual masturbation can be practiced in different ways depending on each couple’s preferences and limits. For example, some choose to masturbate side by side, looking at each other, while others prefer to be more physically involved by touching each other. Doing it separately on the phone can also be a good option.
