Good dust gathering
You wouldn’t look for Morgan, but the brand has quite a bit of history with off-road racing. They have been participating in rallies on the dirt since 1911. Not surprising, because at that time not everything was asphalted. As a nod to the past, the British car brand is partnering with Dakar veteran Rally Raid. Together they will build eight copies of this special Morgan Plus Four CX-T.
For safety, Morgan places a sturdy external roll cage over the body of the Morgan Plus Four. The cage has a double function: in addition to safety, it also serves as a rack for all the gear for an off-road adventure. Wheels, extra fuel, tool cases and no doubt there is room for a cool box on the back. After all, a day of adventuring makes you very thirsty and you don’t drink lukewarm water around a campfire. There are also options to mount bicycles or surfboards on the roll cage.
Other adjustments to the Morgan Plus Four CX-T
More ground clearance, more track width, thicker shock absorbers and, of course, hefty off-road tires are other essential adjustments. The rear differential on the Morgan Plus Four CX-T comes from a BMW with xDrive four-wheel drive, but the off-roader does not have four-wheel drive. However, if desired, the diff can be fully locked, which increases the off-road possibilities. Morgan applies skid plates to the bottom of the car against nasty rocks.
More convenience
With the normal Morgan Plus Four, the side windows can simply be closed, so we expect that to be possible here too. Very handy in dusty areas. There is a first-aid kit in the cabin, a special place for maps and a cool bag in the passenger’s footwell. There is also a holder for your phone and an extra reading light.
Specifications Morgan Plus Four CX-T
The engine is the same as that of the normal Plus Four and therefore comes from the shelves of BMW. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 258 hp and 350 Nm, which is sent to the rear wheels via a manual gearbox. The 0-100 time should be just above 5 seconds. The normal Plus Four costs about 92,000 euros in the Netherlands including taxes. If you want one of the eight CX-Ts, you have to pay 200,000 euros – excluding taxes. So bargain.
