In 2017, 54 new imaging equipment was installed in mainland France. the MRI park now has 960 devices, excluding research, veterinary and military equipment. Yet a patient who needs an urgent MRI will still have to wait 32 days on average to get an appointment. That is almost two weeks more than the 20-day goal posted in the 2014-2019 Pan Cancer. Figures unveiled by the National Union of the Industry of Medical Technologies (Snitem) on the occasion of the Francophone Radiology Days.
For this study, the Cemka Institute (on behalf of Snitem), simulated making an appointment by telephone for a patient with a prescription for a lumbar MRI to be performed “urgently” within the framework of a search forextension of cancer. This call was made to all radiology departments or practices with an MRI. The results show very different regional situations. In 2018, two regions had a delay of more than 50 days (52 for Brittany, 70 for Pays de la Loire), while Ile-de-France fell below the average threshold of 20 days. On average, it takes 32.3 days to get this appointment.
