An emergency physician allegedly violently grabbed a nurse by the neck after an altercation. The health professional suffers from a cervical sprain and has filed a complaint.
In Montauban, a nurse decided to file a complaint against an emergency doctor at the Pont de Chaume clinic in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). The man allegedly assaulted her physically and verbally while on duty. According to the newspaper Humanity, the facts took place on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, after the admission of a patient to the emergency room. She suffered from psychiatric disorders and complained of diffuse pain.
The patient also had a cocaine addiction, which the nurse pointed out to the doctor on call, considering that the emergency department was not adapted to this type of care which requires specific care. The man allegedly called the city hospital, which refused to admit the patient. The nurse would then have alerted the on-call administrator of the clinic, which seems to have displeased the doctor. The tone would be raised.
Five days off work
According to the version reported by the victim and the unions, the emergency physician then grabbed the nurse, squeezing her violently by the neck and pushing her, while threatening her with his fist. The health professional continued on duty for five hours, before having her injuries noted. Shocked, she suffered a neck sprain and bruised back, and was prescribed five days off work.
Humanity recalls the complex context that characterizes this private establishment, owned by Elsan, the leading French private hospital group. For several years, unions have been warning about the deterioration of working conditions and the general exhaustion that has won over the teams. Strike movements were initiated in 2010 and 2015. The female staff denounced, among other things, the contempt present in everyday life.
To date, no sanction has been taken by the management against the doctor, who practices as a liberal in the clinic. The nurse was not subject to protective measures. The emergency physician returned to work on Saturday.
