The government is opening the trial of vaccination against monkey pox in pharmacies, in three regions of France.
- The decree relating to vaccination against monkey pox was promulgated in the Official Journal on Tuesday 9 August.
- To date, 153 vaccination centers have been opened in the territory and 20,322 people have been vaccinated as of August 4.
From Wednesday and for two weeks: here are the details provided by the Minister of Health to AFP concerning the vaccination against monkeypox which has so far affected 2,400 people in France, including 862 in Ile-de-France .
Multiple sex partners
During this period, pharmacists will therefore be able to vaccinate in two pharmacies in Île-de-France, two in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and one in Hauts-de-France.
Unlike the Covid 19 vaccination campaign, it is men who have sex with men reporting multiple sexual partners, trans people reporting multiple sexual partners, sex workers and professionals working in places of consumption sex that are mostly targeted.
Cold chain
This test will make it possible to see if the cold chain is well respected between the pharmacies and the hospitals which receive the doses. Indeed, the anti-smallpox vaccine used for vaccination against monkeypox must absolutely be kept at very low temperature (-80°C) and “can only be kept for fifteen days” once thawed, explains the ministry. The vaccines, although single-dose, are packaged in boxes of twenty doses.
“It will therefore be a question of evaluating whether there is no loss of doses“, specifies the ministry and if it is relevant to extend the vaccination campaign in pharmacies.
On Monday, the largest monkeypox vaccination center in Paris recalled nearly 500 people vaccinated within it between August 2 and 4 to vaccinate them again, “en due to a break in the cold chain” has indicated Paris city hall.
