The #MoisSansTabac is back. Organized by Public Health France, Health Insurance and the Ministry of Health via the website Tobacco Info Servicethe initiative is already in its third edition: today more than 230,000 French people have pledged to say “goodbye” to cigarettes by the end of November 2018.
Currently, France has 12 million smokers. And women are not the last since the percentage of smokers rose from 21.5% in 2000 to 30.8% in 2017, among 45-54 year olds.
According to a recent OpinionWay study for SMEREP carried out in May 2018 among 1,000 high school students and 1,001 students, 28% of female students in France are regular smokers. On the high school side, 14% of girls say they are “currently smokers on a regular or occasional basis”.
Will alone, therapeutic hypnosis and electronic cigarette
Good news: if, according to this survey, 21% of female students who smoke do not want to get rid of their addiction, the remaining ¾ would like to quit.
First argument invoked (by 66% of smokers questioned): health. Then comes the economic argument (mentioned by 56% of respondents) and the aesthetic aspect – thus, 32% of student smokers are fed up with yellow teeth, nicotine breath and dull complexion…
Quit smoking, yes, but how? If 61% of student smokers planned to rely on their will alone, 20% would want to trust therapeutic hypnosis and 18% are considering switching to electronic cigarettes.
Be careful however, according to an American study published in August 2018 by the University of California, daily vaping could double the risk of heart attack.
