Hot flashes and acupuncture
If a symptom calls for an adaptation of the organism, it is that of hot flashes. It is therefore logical to use a method based on the rebalancing of energies. Menopause is characterized by an excessive surge of “yang” (hot, masculine) energy up the body, which causes stress and hot flashes. And by a stagnation of “yin” (cold, feminine) in the lower body (cold feet, heavy legs, bloated stomach). The questioning, the observation of the tongue and the taking of the pulse make it possible to choose the most suitable treatment to find the balance of “qi” (energy).
At what rate?
Count ten sessions, first twice a week, then once a week, then every fortnight. But some women are relieved in a few sessions.
What result?
When it is effective – women are more or less sensitive to it – the effect is long lasting. It is also interesting on mood and sleep disorders.
Cost: From 30 to 80 euros per session, reimbursed by certain mutuals.
Soybeans and other plants
The phyto treatment for menopause is based on plants that mimic the action of female hormones. It combines “estrogenic” plants (soybean, flax, black cohosh, sage, oats, hops) and “progestagenic” plants such as chaste tree or lemon balm.
Sometimes you also have to deal with stress. “A product which only contains soy is therefore not sufficient,” insists Dr Bérengère Arnal-Schnebelen. If the sweats resist a good association, I increase the doses or I add other plants to also act on anxiety and stress, often involved in their onset. Passionflower, fumitory, valerian… help, for example, to relax and sleep better. The intake of magnesium and vitamin B6 is often necessary, because their deficiency worsens the symptoms and the relaxing action of magnesium is interesting.
The assimilation of these plants is better when the intestinal flora is balanced. If you tend to be bloated, it is advisable to add pro or prebiotics to the treatment.
Herbal medicine brings relief after ten to fifteen days. But if a first product does not work, do not hesitate to see your doctor again. According to Dr. Arnal-Schnebelen, herbal treatments soothe, at least in part, nine out of ten women.
Hot flashes and homeo
Nearly fifty homeopathic medicines treat hot flashes. Because it is not so much the symptom that we are going to try to appease, but the woman who suffers from this symptom. Homeopathic treatment is therefore particularly based on tailor-made, difficult to design yourself. The homeopath can also grope at the beginning, so do not hesitate to return to see him if you are not relieved.
The prescription is made according to the woman’s “terrain” (is she more nervous, more lymphatic?) And the precise characteristics of her discomfort (intensity of sweating, times of the day at which it occurs, other signs, etc.).
Which products to choose?
Two “hormonal” action remedies are often recommended by Dr Rafal. Folliculinum stimulates the action of estrogen (4 granules of 5 CH, to be sucked twice a day, without meals, then once a day after improvement). FSH, one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland (4 granules in 5 CH), must also be sucked twice a day until improvement.
What result?
When it works, the payoff is usually felt quite quickly. The intensity and frequency of hot flashes then decrease by at least 50%. The treatment can be continued for as long as necessary.
Be careful, however, no self-medication in case of significant discomfort.
If you are really in trouble, you better get help. A gynecologist aware of alternative solutions will be able to advise you and indicate solutions adapted to your case.
