Between October and December, three students from the Dijon campus (University of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) were stricken with meningococcal meningitis. “Two of these students have died and the state of health of the third is progressing favourably”said the ARS of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in a press release.
The disease having declared itself in three people of the same age group and from the same student environment, the Regional Health Agency calls on the doctors to “particular vigilance vis-à-vis patients presenting with signs suggestive of the disease”.
In addition, a vaccination campaign will be organized from the start of the law school.
Symptoms to watch out for
Meningococcus is a germ that is transmitted from person to person through droplets of saliva. The main meningitis symptoms meningococcal disease resemble those of the flu:
– Fever and headache
– Vomiting.
The most representative symptoms of the disease appear later:
– Joint pain and stiff neck
– Discomfort in the light
– Red spots on the skin (purpura).
