The more men find a woman beautiful, the more they would be willing to take risks and have sex without condoms, according to the results of a study. study published in the medical journal BMJ. And conversely, the less they find their partner desirable, the more they put on a condom.
Researchers from the University of Southampton and Bristol (UK) conducted a study with 51 heterosexual participants aged 19 to 61 to analyze their way of using condoms and understand whether or not sexual attractiveness could affect prevention against STIs. The volunteers had to prioritize 20 photographs of women based on their beauty, how lucky they would be to spend a night with her, how likely they were to wear a condom, and how likely she was to be a carrier. sexually transmitted infection (STI).
The results of the experiment have shown that men are willing to take more risks with a woman they find attractive and not protect themselves.
“Men are more likely to have condomless sex with pretty women,” Anastasia Eleftheriou, a public health researcher at the University of Southampton, told the Washington Post. “Even though they agree that they might be more likely to have a sexually transmitted infection», Explains the researcher.
Sex makes men less rational
Even though this study was carried out on a small sample of people, the researchers point out that it indicates a real trend and that this survey did not take into account alcohol and excitement, two factors that modify the intake of decisions about condoms.
“Men want to mate with the women they find most attractive,” concluded Roger Ingham, one of the study’s authors.
“Or maybe men attach more importance to having sex with attractive women, and therefore are willing to take more risks to achieve it. Or, it is a mixture of these two motivations”, he asserts.
