Marktplaats will immediately stop with the Equal Crossing service and will come up with a replacement to solve the current problems.
From now on it is no longer possible to use the Equal Crossing service on Marktplaats let the platform know† New purchases via the platform are therefore no longer ‘insured’ by the concept from the time of writing. Why does Marktplaats stop with this popular service?
Marketplace stops Crossing Right
At Equal Crossing, a seller only receives his money when the package has arrived at the buyer. Through the Track & Trace code, Marktplaats gets to know when a package has been delivered. This normally cost 40 cents and 4.5% of the purchase value and was usually charged to the buyer.
Not waterproof
The service, on the other hand, was far from foolproof. As promised, the seller will not receive his money until the package has arrived. But there is a 7-day limit on Even Crossing. After 7 days, the seller gets his money anyway, whether the package has arrived or not. As a buyer, you must therefore be alert and report whether or not before the end of the week that no package has arrived.
In addition, consumer watchdogs as the consumer association often criticized Marktplaats’ Equal Crossing. The seller automatically gets his money, even if there was a steaming turd in the package. There is only a guarantee that the buyer will receive a package, not what is in the package.
New service
To circumvent these problems, Marktplaats is developing a new service. It is not yet known when the replacement of Crossing Even will be introduced.
With this new service you are not only protected if your package has not been sent by the seller, but also if the product arrives damaged or the content of the package is different than agreed with the seller.
