According to a study conducted by a team of researchers from Imperial College London and published in the medical journal The Lancet, the life expectancy of women could reach 90 years in some developed countries by 2030.
South Korea, champion in all categories
In the years to come, the longest life expectancy will be held by women and men in South Korea. The little girls who will be born in 2030 there will be able to live until their 90.8 years; as for the little boys, they will be able to live until their 84.1 years. In any case, this is what a study by Imperial College London reveals. The French and the Japanese will be able to live equally long and reach respectively 88.6 years and 88.4 years.
According to the authors of this work, “ there is more than a 50% probability that, by 2030, the life expectancy of women nationwide will break the 90-year barrier ”, Whereas, until now, a large part of the scientific community did not even consider it. ” Our projections show a continuing increase in longevity and the need for careful planning of health, social services and pensions. », They added.
Same life expectancy in the United States, Mexico and Croatia.
Regarding men, it is in Switzerland and Australia that we will be able to live the longest by 2030. In these countries, the life expectancy of men can reach 84 years. From 2010 to 2030, the countries that will gain the most years will be South Korea (+ 6.6 years for women and + 7 years for men), as well as Slovenia (+ 4.7 years for women and over 6.4 years for men).
In contrast, in the United States, the results are not as good. While the life expectancy of Americans is already lower than that of most developed countries, by 2030 it will be only 83.3 years for women and 76.5 to 79.5 years for men. According to the authors of the study, this is explained by the lack of a universal health system, high maternal and infant mortality rates and obesity that affects large numbers of people.
