In 2016, Inserm conducted a survey on “The French and rheumatism”. The results of this study showed that rheumatism affects more people than you might think. The vast majority of survey respondents (93%) had experienced joint pain at least once in their life. 8 out of 10 French people have even experienced it several times. And 1 out of 2 French people (1 out of 3 young people aged 18-24) admitted to suffering from it when answering the survey. Three quarters of them recognized that these joint pains had an impact on sleep, leisure, professional life, family life or life as a couple.
Can rheumatism be prevented?
In the absence of treatment, it is possible to act on rheumatism via its prevention. The researchers advise developing the notion of “joint capital”, a capital to be preserved at all costs throughout life. “The loss of this capital leads to a sedentary lifestyle, the harmful consequences of which are known for the heart and the blood vessels, among others,” emphasize the Inserm researchers.
This osteoarticular capital is based on:
- Physical activity adapted to osteoarticular disease.
- A balanced diet to avoid overweight, a major risk factor for rheumatism.
- Smoking cessation and good oral hygiene, two proven risk factors for the initiation and aggravation of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Prevention of falls in the elderly responsible for fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
What trace elements to strengthen the joints?
“Oligotherapy is a good approach to support joint function, fight against stiffness and reduce pain, explains Dr. Martinat. It helps to rebalance the ground and goes very well with phytotherapy or aromatherapy which are targeted.”
In practice, our expert advises an association of:
- copper : one of the key trace elements of joint comfort, for its anti-inflammatory and anti-osteoarthritis effects. One dose every morning.
- magnesium and potassium: relaxants and muscle relaxants. One dose of each three times a week.
- sulphur: which contributes to the good health of articular cartilage. One dose four times a week.
- selenium: anti-inflammatory and especially antioxidant. One dose three times a week.
To be taken as a 4-week cure, away from meals. Place the liquid or tablet under the tongue a few minutes before swallowing.
