Jeep unveils its new 5-seater Grand Cherokee on September 29, in its American version. The SUV will be offered in France from June 2022, only in a 4xe plug-in hybrid version.
A few months after the presentation of the 7-seater model Grand Cherokee L, Jeep officially reveals its new Grand Cherokee in its “short” five-seater version. It is the only body of the model which should be officially imported to us. But it will first be launched in the United States, where it was unveiled.
This fifth generation of Grand Cherokee is, unsurprisingly, modeled on the long version discovered in January 2021: horizontal headlights connected by the brand’s famous seven-bar grille, black painted roof underlined by a chrome strip running from the windshield to the rear window … The five-seater variant is 4.91 m, compared to 5.20 m for the Grand Cherokee L. The wheelbase is 2.96 meters, or 13 cm less.
Same recipe in the passenger compartment, where we find the same dashboard as on the seven-seater version. In the center throne a 10.1-inch touchscreen, incorporating the latest Uconnect 5 system. The digital counters are the same size. Another 10.25-inch slab can be installed facing the front passenger, as an option, as well as the last two on the backs of the seats to occupy the children in the rear. Jeep’s SUV is also full of technologies with night vision, the level 2 semi-autonomous driving system, a color head-up display, assistance against collisions at intersections and the drowsiness detection system. driving.
Hybridization for the first time
On the other side of the Atlantic, the Grand Cherokee will still be entitled to petrol V6 3.0 Pentastar of 293 hp and V8 5.7 of 357 hp. But the big news is elsewhere, and concerns us more: the arrival of the plug-in hybrid, as on the Renegade, Compass and Wrangler 4xe. The Grand Cherokee 4xe will thus combine a 2.0 turbo four-cylinder with two electric motors and an eight-speed automatic transmission, for a cumulative power of 375 hp and 637 Nm of torque. The 17 kWh battery would allow the SUV to do 40 km in electric mode depending on the brand, despite an unfavorable size and aerodynamics.
Arrival in France in the summer of 2022
Produced at the Jeep plant in Detroit, the new Grand Cherokee will first be launched in the United States by the end of the year. With us, we will have to wait until summer 2022. In France, marketing will take place from June 2022, only with a 4xe plug-in hybrid engine to avoid too severe a penalty.
