The Jeep Gladiator pick-up finally landed in France at a price of € 59,083 excl. The double-cabin utility based on the Wrangler escapes the ecological penalty because it is only approved in category N1 with four seats. It is only available in limited numbers.
More than a year after the rest of the world, France is finally entitled to the Jeep Gladiator. This Wrangler-derived all-terrain double-cab pickup is 5.18 m long with its load bed measuring 1.53 m, and offers 613 kg of payload. These figures below those of the competition on the utility plan testify to the compromise chosen by Jeep to retain the versatility and livability of its 4×4 despite the addition of the tipper. In France, the Gladiator is approved in utility category N1 and offered exclusively in a limited series Overland Launch Edition at a price of € 59,083 excluding VAT or € 70,900 including VAT.
A well-equipped limited series
The Gladiator is only available in France with a V6 3 L diesel of 264 hp and 600 Nm of torque associated with an all-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic gearbox with reduction gear and rear slip differential limit. Its standard equipment includes:

- adaptive cruise control
- reversing camera
- front camera
- front and rear parking sensors

- 7 inch digital dashboard
- 8.4 inch central touch screen
- navigation system
- Alpine audio system with subwoofer
- removable bluetooth speaker
- removable hard top in three parts
- soft tonneau cover
- 18 inch alloy wheels
The Gladiator is offered in white or black at no extra cost; the only options are red and metallic gray body colors both invoiced € 1,250 excluding tax or € 1,500 including tax.
No penalty for the Gladiator
The marketing of the Jeep Gladiator in France was unexpected given the tax burden on double-cabin pick-ups. Since 2019, these are no longer exempt from ecological penalties (unless they are intended for the operation of ski areas) and, with its 254 g of CO2 per kilometer in the WLTP cycle, the American utility should be subject to the maximum tax capped at € 30,000 (€ 40,000 in 2022).
But the law is clear and states that the tithe applies to everything ” pick-up truck body category N1 vehicle with at least 5 seats “, Even if that doesn’t matter, Jeep has removed the central rear seat of the Gladiator for the French market. Approved exclusively for four-seater (not reversible), the colossus thus escapes the ecological penalty and, at the same time, to the TVS (Tax on Company Vehicles). Stocks for France are nevertheless limited.
NB A private customer can quite buy a utility, but does not recover the VAT unlike a company.
