Sophrologists, hypno-therapists, naturopaths…. With more than 4.8 million searches on the Internet in 2014, alternative medicines are attracting more and more French people!
Of the 245 million searches for health professionals recorded on pagesjaunes.fr in 2014 (fixed and mobile Internet), general practitioners won the award for the most sought-after practitioners by French Internet users, the French Internet users revealed on Tuesday. Health Barometer 2015 of the most popular telephone directory in France.
With its 34.1 million annual searches (i.e. 13.9% of health requests), the general practitioner is therefore still positioned as the local health professional referent for the French on a daily basis, especially in rural areas. But also in urban areas, if we are to believe the figures from the barometer, since it is in Lyon that we are looking for the most general practitioners.
In this ranking, follow dentists who have generated more than 24.5 million searches (10% of queries) pagesjaunes.fr. The third step of the podium is occupied by physiotherapists with 15.2 million searches (6.2% of requests). Finally, in 4th and 5th position, ophthalmologists and radiologists arrive with 14.5 million (5.9%) and 11 million requests (4.5%) respectively.
+ 61% clicks for alternative medicine
Marginalized a few years ago, alternative medicines are now popular with the French, with more than 4.8 million requests made in 2014 on pagesjaunes.fr (vs. 3 million in 2013), i.e. 61% more searches. !
Loire-Atlantique (729 searches for 10,000 inhabitants), Ille-et-Vilaine (697 searches for 10,000 inhabitants) and the Côtes-d’Armor (689 searches for 10,000 inhabitants) are at the top of the list. departments most adept at alternative medicine. Are the Bretons in search of well-being?
In terms of specialties, hypno-therapy, magnetism, or sophrology alone recorded a growth of more than 105% of research between 2011 and 2014.
The Barometer notes a particularly strong enthusiasm among the French for hypno-therapists who record, with more than 196,217 annual searches, a record growth of 62% compared to 2013!
L’Aube and Montpellier rely on music
It is mainly Loire-Atlantique and the city of Nantes which concentrate the most requests for these practitioners. It is also in this city of nearly 300,000 inhabitants that dieticians are the most sought after. Elected green capital of Europe in 2013, the people of Nantes obviously take as much care of their city as of their line.
Magnetizers are increasingly in demand with 278,943 annual requests (i.e. + 52%! Vs. 2013), particularly in the Côtes d’Armor and Dijon. Sophrologists, they attract in Savoy and Toulouse. And it seems that it swings more in the Aube and in Montpellier where music therapists are massively sought after.
The plastic surgeon and the power of word of mouth
Finally, the PagesJaunes Barometer shows that a good number of practitioners are often searched for by name. Queries that confirm the importance of reputation in the health sector, where word of mouth is a major parameter.
In the list of nominative requests, we find plastic surgeons in No. 1 (57%), in No. 2 in general practitioners (47%), in No. 3 in gastroenterologists (38%), in 4th place in cardiologists ( 37%). In last position are pediatricians with 32% of searches by name.
Conversely, dermatologists, ophthalmologists and radiologists are mainly sought on pagesjaunes.fr through their specialty.
