Instagram further focuses on video

Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says in a short video that Instagram will continue to focus on videos in the future.

Instagram has always been a service where you only share your photos. But the focus has shifted much more in recent years to video. Probably in an effort to stay relevant among young people.

The app will continue to support photos. But the increasing emphasis on video is also driven by user behavior. They respond well to videos.

Criticism from the community

Meanwhile, there is also criticism from the community. Several major accounts are complaining that Instagram is becoming too much like TikTok, when they just want to see “cute pictures of friends”.

Those users also have an online petition set up, which has collected 181,139 signatures at the time of writing. The message: Make Instagram Instagram again.

With its renewed focus on video, Instagram wants to ensure that users spend more time in its app (which means they may have less time for the competition).

Earlier, the platform announced that almost every (new) video on the service is a so-called Reel. Reels are short(er) videos that are most like TikToks.
