To assess the link between cardiometabolic diseases and the microbiota, INSERM is looking for more than 220 volunteers in Ile-de-France.
The National Institute for Health and Medical Research (Inserm) is appealing for the donation of intestinal bacteria. The Institute needs 222 volunteers from the Ile-de-France region to participate in a clinical trial on the role of the microbiota in the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Be between 18 and 75 years old
In recent years, the intestinal flora has become a major area of research. An organ in its own right, the medical world suspects it of a central role in the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. This is because there is a link between bacteria in the gut, obesity and the development of atheromatous plaques in the arteries.
To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 75 years old, overweight or have diabetes or heart disease. However, the researchers stress their needs for patients suffering from type 2 diabetes. The volunteers will be monitored by the CHU Pitié-Salpêtrière. This is why the research institute wishes to recruit Ile-de-France residents.

Analyze the genome of the microbiota
The test is carried out in 3 stages. First, microbiota donors will need to complete an online questionnaire and then collect small amounts of urine and stool. To avoid damaging the samples, they should be placed in the freezer. A delivery person will then come to the home to collect the samples. This will allow researchers to study the genome of bacteria. Participants will then benefit from a series of exams during a day in the hospital and a consultation with a specialist.
This study is part of the European project METACARDIS started in 2012. Along with French teams, British, German, Danish and Swedish researchers will collaborate on this work. The aim of this clinical trial is to gain a better understanding of the evolution of these diseases. This will make it possible to improve screening and their management, and the development of future treatments.
If you wish to participate in the METARDIS project, you can send an email to the following address: recrutement-volontaires@ican-institute.org or call 01 42 17 79 52.
