This is a bill that should upset feminists to the highest degree. In the conservative state of Texas, the Senate has just passed a text, which if adopted by the House of Representatives, should formalize the retention of information from obstetricians on the state of health of the future baby. What are we talking about exactly? If gynecologists discover a malformation, illness or disability in the future baby, they will no longer be obliged to warn the future parents. This text, which comes down to legalizing lies about the state of health of the unborn baby, gives rise to excesses going against women to dispose of their bodies: so one can imagine that a doctor opposed to abortionrefrain from informing the parents in the event of a disability of the future child, in order to avoid, for example, prenatal tests which could lead the mother to the decision to abort.
“This is another thinly veiled attempt to prevent the Texans from access their constitutional right to abortion“, recalled Tuesday Heather Busby, director of the movement for the right to abortion Naral Texas, quoted by The Huffington Post.
A measure that “limits the rights of women”
For the detractors of this text like the democratic senator José Rodriguez, “it seems that it is a question of restricting and limiting more the right of the woman to exercise her choice concerning what she will do in the event of serious problems in the fetus”.
Still, this measure has every chance of passing the next legislative stage since after the House of Representatives it will have to obtain the approval of the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. There is no doubt that this very pious and ferociously anti-abortion Republican will not oppose this provision.
