In many cities in France, the Emergency Departments are saturated: thus, according to a survey published on August 3, 2022 by the Samu-Urgences de France union, in July 2022, the emergency reception services recorded a increase in activity of 12.3%, i.e. 180,000 more passages than in July 2021.
This explosive situation is of course cringe, on the side of caregivers as well as on the side of patients. Thus, this Monday, August 15, in the middle of the night, two caregivers were attacked in the Emergency room of the Lapeyronie hospital, in Montpellier, report our colleagues from Figaro.
Six days of ITT for a waiting time deemed too long
Two people from the same family went to the emergency room to examine a 14-year-old girl who suffered an allergic reaction following a spider bite. But things did not go quickly enough to their liking: unhappy with the waiting time, the two people insulted the health staff, hit a nurse and pushed a caregiver to the ground.
The two caregivers of course filed a complaint: they benefited from six days of temporary incapacity for work (ITT). The two attackers, meanwhile, were arrested and placed in police custody: they were tried in immediate appearance for “willful violence in a meeting on medical personnel” this Wednesday, August 17.
“I give my full support to the two caregivers attacked this Monday in the emergency room of the Lapeyronie hospital in Montpellier. I strongly condemn this attack, as well as all forms of violence against health professionals, which are unacceptable.“reacted the Minister of Health, François Braun, on Twitter.
