Bruno Richard begins his 32nd day of hunger strike. Posted in front of the Ministry of Health, this father is ready to do anything to ensure that his disabled son receives “appropriate care”.
This Thursday, October 9, Bruno Richard is on his 32nd day of hunger strike in front of the Ministry of Health, avenue Duquesne in Paris (7th). The reason, his heavily disabled son Robin is still awaiting treatment adapted to his pathology.
A lightning victim
In this story, it all begins during a school trip in 2007, in the town of Trets (13), when Robin has just won the race of the day. He was struck on the head by a single thunderbolt, heard more than 20km away, leaving him lifeless. The lightning strike that went through it from head to toe is incredible with a power between 400,000 and 2,000,000 volts, 30,000 ° C, between 30,000 and 300,000 amperes. He was then thrown over 10 meters onto the edge of a cliff, where his brother Maxime found him. Max Blanc, the organizing professor, immediately performs resuscitation and brings him back to life while waiting for help.
Arrived at the Hospital de la Timone (Marseille), Robin is alive. He survived, but he is in a very deep coma and burned all the way from the lightning and in a state considered hopeless by the medical profession who harasses the parents to “disconnect” him, according to the account of his father.
Parents in conflict with the medical team
Against the advice of these doctors, the parents refuse. Then begins a long fight for this family. This father explains that “the health services evoke a pseudo expertise according to which Robin is in a vegetative state and therefore does not need rehabilitation. “A conclusion that provoked the anger of parents who put forward the progress of their son. Supporting Videos, he explains that his son can stand, count, write his first name or read text messages. “The experts’ conclusions go against other medical reports which explain that Robin can interact with those around him and that he can still progress,” he adds.
But despite his hunger strike, the treatment schedule for Robin is strictly the same as for the last few months, namely 3 hours of physiotherapy per week.
“It is intolerable to see that nothing is moving and that a 20-year-old young man is left without adequate care. We must continue to talk about this situation, with the media, with your contacts, ”writes this father in a petition posted on the site. change.org.
It has collected more than 55,975 signatures to date.
