The American company Undercover Colors has just developed a device that detects the presence of several rapist drugs in more than 100 liquids.
In France, a woman is raped every seven minutes. The “rapist drugs”, namely GHB, ketamine, but also Rohypnol and Zolpidem, two powerful hypnotics, allow attackers to commit irreparable pus easily. Usually used in the evening, the substances are poured into the glass of the future victim without his knowledge. There will be dizziness, feelings of euphoria, then partial or total amnesia of the events.
Since these products are designed to stay in the body for less than twelve hours, female rapist drug victims often come to their senses too late to do lab tests, and cannot file a complaint.
Like a pregnancy test
To fight against these attacks, the American company Undercover Colors has just developed a device that detects the presence of several rapist drugs in more than 100 liquids. Alprazolam (Xanax) and diazepam (Valium) are also among the molecules that can be analyzed.
Concretely, the invention functions like a pregnancy test. Women dip strips or pour a few drops into the drink, and know in less than 30 seconds whether it is healthy or not. The cost of the product is still significant: 35 dollars for a pack consisting of 5 tests accompanied by their bases. It is then possible to buy 10 tests for 50 dollars.
Smart raw
Last year, three American high school girls invented the “smart raw” (smart straw). It makes it possible to detect the substances most used by rapists.
Immersed in a glass contaminated with one of these substances, the straw takes on a blue color. The victim is then warned and can throw away the contents of his glass. “This will not end the rapes, but the straw could decrease the number of dangerous situations in which we can find ourselves because of these drugs”, explain the young girls. Keeping your eyes on your glass is the first attitude to follow.
