Since Monday, June 21 in vaccination centers, rapid serological tests (TROD) have been deployed. But how are they useful?
What if the second injection could be avoided? Good news, it might just be you! Since Monday, June 21, rapid serological tests, TROD, have been gradually deployed in the many vaccination centers in France. These tests, carried out with a prick on the fingertip, will determine, (if the result is positive), to inject a single dose of anti-covid vaccine. The objective behind this device is to avoid unnecessary use of doses and to accelerate the objectives of the vaccination schedule in the country.
TROD: how do they work?
To date, 32,055,997 French people have received at least one dose of vaccine in France. The government seems to be going further and wants to vaccinate the entire population by the end of the summer. To achieve this goal, the TROD can be a formidable weapon.
The operation of the latter is simple: we prick the fingertip to obtain a drop of blood and after 10 to 15 minutes, it is possible to detect the presence of antibodies. If you are negative, you must wait at least 21 days for the second dose. On the other hand, if you have antibodies, it means that you have had the Covid without knowing it and in this case, a single injection will be sufficient. “It is estimated that 23% of the population has been infected while only 8% have been detected by PCR or antigen test. It would therefore be useful to identify all those who have been infected without knowing it “, indicated the HAAS in its recommendations of June 3. “The protection conferred by a single dose injected into a person with a history of infection is greater than that provided by two doses injected into a person without a history of infection. And this, regardless of the age of the infection “, she assures.
Who are they for?
The youngest will obviously have priority for this screening, since they are in the great majority asymptomatic. The tests will be offered from 12 years old. Adults under 55 will also be able to claim them. “The HAS considers that screening by TROD on a blood sample (rapid diagnostic orientation test) serological for asymptomatic forms of Covid-19 at the same time as the administration of the first dose of vaccine could thus make it possible to inject only ‘a single dose when this test is positive “, then assured the High Authority of Health, in its press release.
