Online reviews, prices, waiting times, address… Here is how the French choose to consult a health professional.
- 57% of French people consult online reviews of healthcare professionals.
- This figure even rises to 77% among young adults aged 25-34.
According to an OpinionWay study carried out for DoctiZen, 87% of French people have consulted a healthcare professional over the past twelve months for a problem that concerns them. 28% did it for their child, 36% for their spouse and 19% for their parents.
The general practitioner is the most consulted
Unsurprisingly, it is the general practitioner who is consulted the most, ahead of the dentist, the medical specialist, the physiotherapist, the osteopath, the podiatrist, the nurse, the psychologist and the orthodontist.
How are they chosen by their patients? 80% decide to consult according to the geographical proximity of the practice, 77% according to the advice of another doctor and 77% according to the waiting time to obtain an appointment. Only 10% are based on the recommendations of those around them, and 5% on the price of the consultation.
Opinions weigh in the balance
Moreover, “more than half of respondents have already consulted online reviews published about healthcare professionals, and a quarter do so often or always”, can we read in the report. 84% of people surveyed think that these opinions are useful, 75% that they encourage doctors to take them into account, 73% that they are credible and 56% that they are essential.
“Unsurprisingly, opinions are consulted more for health professionals that respondents do not know, and for the vast majority before making an appointment”, conclude the pollsters.
