Start the new year consciously
On the new year, of course, should be drunk. And eaten. When we have finished the champagne and the oliebollen on December 31, we will do it all over again at the many New Year’s receptions. This is how you start the new year consciously.
After the holidays, which are traditionally accompanied by extensive meals and dressed drinks, the belt is usually a little looser. That’s not a bad thing, but it is now time to put on the brakes before things get out of hand. Then you don’t think you can really use such a New Year’s reception. But you don’t have to. If you separate the concept of ‘reception’ from food and drink, you have come a long way. Look forward to catching up with all those people you haven’t seen in a while and make the rest a trivial matter.
Not hungry
An important condition for keeping this New Year’s resolution is to make sure you don’t go to a New Year’s reception hungry. If your stomach is growling, those bowls of bitterballen are extra tempting and you have no eyes for anyone but the waiter. So make sure you have a healthy lunch such as a well-filled soup or salad. It is better not to take carbohydrates during lunch, then you can take a little extra at the reception without too many problems. For example, a couple (and a couple is two or three!) toasts with fish or meat.
Enjoy in moderation
Speaking of snacks, there are usually plenty of them at the New Year’s reception. Something delicious with the coffee, then fried shrimps or flames and cheese biscuits on the tables. We often put all these things in our mouths mindlessly, simply because they are right in front of you. But what do you really like? Try to limit yourself to two snacks that you taste very consciously. And then kindly but persistently decline the rest of the snacks.
One glass is allowed
Well, alcohol, what else can we say about that? That alcohol empty calories and that you are more casual about food after a few drinks, you already know that. But knowing is not the same as doing. And a glass is of course pleasant. So try to stick to that one glass and take the rest water. You probably still have to go home by car and it is also better for your liver.
emergency kit
Is the reception running late and you are stuck with dinner? Then it’s tempting to satisfy the hunger with a few extra bites or to stop for a quick snack along the way. You can overcome this by putting an emergency kit in your bag or in the car. An apple, a small bowl of unroasted nuts (no peanuts and cashew nuts) and at least a bottle of water satisfy the first hunger. This way you can make the way home ‘safely’ and you have the peace and quiet at home to prepare a light meal instead of a triple peanut butter sandwich.
