A new website allows you to post opinions about your hospital stay. A tool of uncertain success, in a country still unaccustomed to this type of initiative.
Health democracy is getting organized, slowly but surely. The image of the paternalistic doctor, an enlightened despot type, is replaced by that of the patient-client, who has his say and his opinion to give.
Influence the quality of the offer
A new website demonstrates this change. After Notetondoc.com, a site which allows to evaluate its practitioner, it is the turn of Hospitalidee.fr to make its debut on the Web. The principle: comment on your hospital stay, note the pluses and minuses of the treatment, and inform other patients.
The website opened at the end of July. It still has few notices – some 10,000 – but according to its founders, this figure continues to grow. On its website, Ciss welcomes this new tool and reiterates the importance of providing as much advice as possible in order to give credibility to the process.
“These opinions, gathered, informed, argued, and shared can influence the quality of the offer of care and hospital services, insist the authors of a communicated. This is all the good we wish for healthcare establishments, which have a lot to gain from relying on this information, emotions, opinions and comparisons to change their reception conditions as closely as possible to their patients’ expectations ”.
No personal attack
The patient can thus evaluate his care according to several criteria – the personnel, the care, the “care”, the safety, the clarity of the tariffs, the services and the support. Thus, it is not a question of issuing opinions on individuals, as has been strongly criticized by the Notetondoc site, but of estimating a system as a whole.
An important step, for the founder of the site, who explains in the section ” In regards to »Having searched the Web in France and across the Atlantic. “It turns out that in France, there are a lot of forums, I got lost! In the United States, the situation is significantly different: doctors can be evaluated, rated by patients. This idea of judging people bothers me, I won’t follow up, but the idea of evaluating organizations appeals to me. “
Avoid abuse
In addition, to avoid abuse, slander and revenge slander, the founders took several precautions. The website thus proposes to certify the opinions obtained thanks to a proof of the stay in the hospital – hospitalization bulletin, email confirming an appointment, etc.
“Through my contacts, I also understand that the project is disturbing. Bringing transparency in an opaque environment means shifting lines, shaking up habits and questioning interests, ”the founder continues on his site, whose success, still uncertain, will say a lot about how the French take ownership of their health.
