Exercises for the production of estrogen
To feel good, it is important to keep your hormones in balance. In addition to a healthy lifestyle, hormone yoga can help you with this: a form of yoga that specifically focuses on the female hormone oestrogen. What exactly is it, does it work and is it something for you?
From the age of 35, the production of estrogen decreases in women. You usually don’t notice it until you get into menopause. Your body changes: your hair becomes thinner, your skin drier, you suffer from hot flashes and mood swings. If the estrogen level goes up again, you can counteract or delay this process, so that you get older without annoying menopausal symptoms. That would be very nice, right? That is why Brazilian yoga teacher Dinah Rodrigues invented and developed hormone yoga.
Hormone Yoga: What Is It?
You probably already know yoga from its many forms, such as ashtanga, vinyasa and yin yoga. Hormone yoga is also part of this, and is a dynamic form with quiet moments. This form affects the entire body, but focuses specifically on the production of estrogen. The exercises have been developed in such a way that they affect your glandular system. Your thyroid, pituitary and ovaries are (among others) part of this system and influence the production of this female hormone.
Does Hormone Yoga Work?
Dinah has been teaching hormone yoga for over thirty years and says she has helped many women with typical menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and insomnia. Younger women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) also seem to benefit from the yoga series. This makes mood swings less intense and heavy bleeding decreases. According to Dinah, women say that they feel more energetic and that they are rid of their complaints. If you do it regularly, you should soon experience results.
More scientific research is needed to prove that hormone yoga really works for hormonal complaints, but yoga is a good way to relax and keep joints flexible.
Is it something for me?
Any woman can try hormone yoga, whether you are young or old. You also do not necessarily have to suffer from hormonal complaints or be familiar with yoga. So: feel free to give it a try. If it doesn’t help, then it doesn’t hurt.
