Honey: it fights against fatigue and heals wounds
We know that there is nothing like a spoon of honey to relieve sore throats and calm dry coughs. But this wonderful food is also radical in the fight against fatigue because it contains mineral salts and trace elements (iron, copper, manganese, zinc, phosphorus) as well as vitamins B6 and B9 which help boost energy.
The honeys richest in trace elements are the darkest (lime, fir, oak).
Finally, it is also an excellent healing agent. Applying honey directly to cuts or minor burns reduces the proliferation of bacteria and accelerates healing: its sugar absorbs water from bacteria and its acidic pH prevents them from multiplying. Propolis: it relieves respiratory infections
Propolis is a plant material that bees collect from conifers. It cannot be consumed raw because it contains impurities, it is therefore prepared in different forms (liquid, capsules, spray …). It has undeniable antiseptic properties that can be used to fight against respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, rhinitis …) but also to prevent them and, more generally, to stimulate them. immune defenses. This antiseptic power is due to the flavonoids that propolis contains, which inhibit the enzyme responsible for the release and proliferation of the virus in the body (including the influenza virus).
To note : Propolis could also be indicated to heal lesions of cold sores. In a clinical trial, propolis ointment was found to be more effective than ointment with aciclovir (the herpes medicine) in treating lesions.
Royal jelly: when hormones are in turmoil
This substance, produced naturally by worker bees, is the queen’s exclusive food: it allows her to live 50 times longer than other bees. Rich in vitamins (A, C, D, E), royal jelly contains an important source of vitamin B5, called the energy vitamin. It also contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, trace elements and amino acids in large quantities. This is what makes it an ideal supplement to fight against fatigue and exhaustion.
What is less known is that royal jelly is also indicated when hormones are in turmoil because it contains compounds with estrogenic activity. During menopause, it helps to fight against all the minor inconveniences: hot flashes, emotional imbalance and difficult sleep.
Traditionally, it is recommended to take royal jelly before breakfast, in cure of 4 to 6 weeks. Take 10 ml per day, in the form of a liquid extract or an ampoule, this form being the most effective, since it uses fresh jelly.
To note : Because of the allergenic potential of royal jelly, it is best to start with a low dose and increase it gradually. Also be careful if you are taking any medication against hypertension because taking royal jelly increases the risk of hypotension.
Pollen to regain energy
- The bee pollen serves as food for the hive. The pollen balls, usually yellow or orange, are made up of the pollen of several flowers. Pollen contains calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamins B and C, copper, essential amino acids and … gold! The pollen in balls must present a mix of colors ranging from yellow to orange to be of good quality.
- Fresh pollen is said to have much higher antioxidant capacities than fruits and vegetables. For comparison, 15 or 20 grams of fresh pollen would be the equivalent of 900 grams of vegetables.
- Pollen helps stimulate the body, fight against stress and temporary depression. It is additionally known to boost male vigor and is often recommended for expectant parents in the pre-conception period.
The pollen balls can be chewed or diluted in fruit juice, water or yogurt, preferably at breakfast. The doses are 15 to 20 g per day for adults and 12 to 15 g for adolescents 12 to 16 years old.
