They are available in pharmaciessince July 2015. The HIV self-testsallow their users to know whether or not they are carriers of the aids virus, and that by a simple prick at the end of the finger. But the price of these kits remains high: from 25 to 28 euros depending on the pharmacies. This is why the Ministry of Health is making these tests free for those most at risk. This measure was announced by a decree published in Official newspaperon August 21, 2016.
A personalized interview before the delivery of a free HIV self-test
The precise text as well as the populations most at risk of being infected by the AIDS virus will have free access to the self-test kit. It’s about :
- “populations highly exposed to the risk of HIV transmission and for whom repeated risk-taking is identified
- people who do not want to enter the current tracking system or who are reluctant to conduct a tracking
- people for whom access to healthcare services is made particularly difficult because of their situation of administrative, socio-economic or geographic isolation. “
The free delivery of the self-test will then be conditioned by an individual interview to be carried out in the premises of an association delivering this kit or in a hospital. The interview can also take place remotely, over the phone or through an online chat. The self-test will then be sent by mail to the beneficiary.
Note: the result provided by the self-test must be confirmed by a classic laboratory screening.
