In this period where rumors and false information are legion on the networks, we must be clear and precise: hot drinks and herbal infusions are not natural remedies against the virus but they fight against it and delay its progression …
The WHO is categorical and categorical: hot drinks such as tea and herbal teas do not kill coronavirus. But failing to destroy the enemy, can they play a role in its weakening ? Can they help us prevent it from settling quietly in the body and progressing in the ENT pathways? Do natural herbal remedies have anti-virus action?
In a nutshell, are hot drinks favorable or harmful in the fight against Covid-19 ? We asked Dr Yann Rougier, Medical specialist and specialist in Neurosciences.
Natural anti-virus remedies: how do they work?
For prevention during periods of epidemics or to better resist the attack of a virus from the first days following contamination, it is recommended to take hot drinks very regularly. The drink must be as hot as possible without harming the mucous membranes so as not to attack them because this virus is very sensitive to heat.
These hot drinks can be taken hourly, throughout the day. Be careful, hot drinks like herbal infusions and green tea do not cure viruses, but they do.delay their progression in ENT pathways (otolaryngology), especially the nose and throat.
Green tea and anti-virus infusions
When you have the back of your throat invaded by a virus, while drinking a hot drink but not hot (so as not to weaken the mucous membranes) like a herbal tea (for example), part of the viruses are destroyed in situ.
These hot drinks can be herbal teas or green tea. Coffee is not recommended because it is one of the acidifying foods. On the other hand, green tea and herbal teas are natural remedies that provide the body with a foundation, which helps fight the virus.
It is then recommended to to gargle with each sip, that is to say every quarter of an hour, to give no respite to the virus and never to let the throat dry up.
What natural remedies to prepare?
You can choose an infusion based on pulmonary, plantain, tussilago, thyme and nettle. To prepare this drink, we group the plants by putting a pinch of each for a bowl or 2 pinches for a liter. We pour boiling water over it, let it infuse for 3 minutes and drink this infusion regularly by sip from hour to hour.
In the absence of plants, we can gargle with a mild antiseptic. The easiest way is to add a little sea salt or a teaspoon of honey in a cup of hot water and add 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar. We can also add citro juicenot to this preparation. We then gargle with this preparation throughout the day (as often as possible).
With this practice, we attack the viruses localized in the ENT tract but we do not destroy not those that are already in the lungs or in the blood (this is more the role of fever for healthy people).
Hot drinks such as herbal teas have anti-virus action in upper ENT areas and they also have the advantage of keep the throat moist. However, the more we wet our throat throughout the day, the less the virus will be able to attach and act.
