August 2, 2001 – A recent study published in Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine confirms the effectiveness of herbal drops in relieving pain caused by otitis media in children and adolescents.
In research conducted by Dr. Michael Sarrel, we compared the effectiveness of drops Otikon, composed of extracts of garlic, mullein, marigold and St. John’s wort and that of anesthetic drops sold under pharmaceutical supervision. Dr Sarrel and his team studied 103 children, aged between 6 and 18, and split them into groups by randomly selecting those who would receive the numbing drops and those who would be given the herbal drops. The results showed that the two remedies were equally effective in relieving pain caused by otitis media.
Although researchers believe that more studies are needed on the safety and effectiveness of the remedy, it appears that herbal drops remain an attractive alternative for parents and therapists concerned with the disease. ” less frequent use of antibiotics in the treatment of otitis media.
