A team from Miyazaki University in Japan has identified a substance, proanthocyanidin, similar to what is found in wine and grapes, which could fight the virus. The blueberries studied came from the southeastern United States.
Researchers believe that blueberry leaves, taken as a dietary supplement in reasonable concentrations, may slow the progression of hepatitis C (Hepatitis C is spread through blood or semen, or by using dirty syringes), which is located in the liver and can take 20 years to develop into disease.
Health experts have listed other things that slow the progression of the disease, such as not drinking alcohol, eating a healthy diet, drinking a lot, and avoiding cholesterol-lowering drugs that pass through the liver.
