Tinnitus, buzzing, hissing. The hearing impairment are the daily lot of the younger generations. An Ipsos study conducted during the 12th week of sound shows that 78% of 15-30 year olds have already experienced hearing difficulties.
However, young French people are aware of the danger of too much sound exposure. 98% of them state that they know the risks, which they have had their ears on during their childhood.
It prevents. Few adopt the right preventive actions. Only 21% of respondents say they systematically move away from speakers, 10% take regular breaks when listening to music, 3% use single-use earplugs and 4% their own earplugs. Hearing health comes after social considerations. If young people listen so loudly to music, it is above all for the atmosphere (40%), the quality of the sound (34%), and by transgression, admit the young people.
When a hearing impairment occurs, 55% do nothing to learn about the subject or be taken care of, the study points out.
A framework for the sound volume under study
This disinterest of young people for their hearing and this risk-taking challenges the Minister of Health who seized on the subject. Guest on RMC / BFMTV, Marisol Touraine does not rule out legislating to limit the sound level of headphones. “We have thought in two directions: to ensure that the headphones can not produce a sound higher than a certain number of decibels”, she explained before adding: “For the headsets which are sold in the trade, see if we can make sure that someone who has headphones on all day cannot be exposed to loud sounds all the time ”.
The second point on which the Minister is attentive is the limitation of the volume in closed rooms such as concert halls. “It is a reflection that we have,” said the minister. Not sure that this idea appeals to the young people concerned.
