If the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital (CHUGA) does not top the list of hospitals produced by Pointhowever, it deserves a special spotlight.
This Thursday, August 17 at 2:30 p.m., a 30-year-old young woman was the victim of an accident on the Chambéry station platform, reports the Dauphine. In the accident, both of his arms were severed by the train.
Quickly taken care of by the emergency services, she was admitted to the hospital a few minutes later. The two amputated limbs are preserved in perfect conditions.
Less than two hours after the accident, at 5 p.m., the patient was admitted to the operating room in the hand surgery department. 20 minutes later, the operation begins.
Two teams take turns for four hours to re-implant the two arms. It’s a surgical success.
If France is a pioneer in terms of reconstructive surgery, in particular with hand transplants, this is the first time that doctors have performed a simultaneous double reimplantation of both arms.
A surgical feat to which we must associate the rapidity of intervention of the Samu teams. “Too long a delay between the trauma and the reimplantation which can lead to irreversible lesions”, specifies the regional daily.
The patient will have to undergo long psychological and functional rehabilitation to recover all or part of the use of her arms.
