Working less would allow you to get better, to be more productive … And many other positive things, including: reducing the pollution of the planet. Because our work pollutes. At least that’s what a study carried out by the British think-tank revealed. Autonomy. Global warming is largely fueled by our working hours.
The study focuses mainly on Great Britain, but looks at all of Europe. It is based on data from the OECD and the United Nations on greenhouse gas emissions.
Work 9 hours a week
In France, these emissions had fallen by 16.1% between 1990 and 2016. This is a report from the Institut de l’Economie pour le weather which underlined it at the beginning of 2019. But since 2016, they go up.
The study gives a concrete example: if the British worked less, global warming would be slowed down. She explains that limiting work to 9 hours a week would keep the country below the critical threshold of 2 degrees.
The whole of Europe is however targeted. The first cause? Exhaust pipes on the way to work. The more Europeans work, the more they travel and the more they pollute. Solution? Reduce working hours.
